With the recent death of its author, J.D. Salinger, I felt that it was time to finally do something I have been intending to do for years, read his classic. I was disappointed. Maybe it was because I had high expectations after all the hype. Maybe it was because I kept expecting something to happen, you know, the classic building action, climax, resolution thing. This book is nothing like this.

Written about a couple of days in the life of a teen who was newly expelled from yet another private high school, the author explores the traditionally pessimistic, skeptic, somewhat depressing view that youth has about the world created by his predecessors. Written with plenty of voice, this book is an enjoyable read, as the reader waits for something to develop. I could almost hear the voice of this book’s contemporary, Jack Kerouac, in the pages. But nothing does happen. Maybe that was the author’s point. In any case, I found that disappointing.

A wonderful start to the series. Eoin Colfer’s great and Nathaniel Parker’s a wonderful narrator!

Great device. I would really like to be able to access the raw data- the readings of coordinates and time and elevation and heart rate so I could plot them as I need. I’ve heard of some freeware that could do this, but Garmin really should take the lead here. Also, it seems from the highly erratic speed/pace data that some smoothing is in order… a single errant point (common in GPS receivers, especially those with antennaes being waved around) can cause distortions in speed calculations. But these can be smoother out using averages over several points. Another reason I’d like access to the data. Ok, I’m a geek, but there’s great information wasted here! And in the interest of full disclosure- I’m a GRMN stockholder.

I couldn’t really make any different with VGA and HDMI. Just wanted to see how HDMI works. It feels good but visually no difference.

This Garmin portable GPS dashboard friction mount is much easier to use than the type that is attached to the windshield with a large suction cup mechanism, which is a dead giveaway that you probably have a (pricey) GPS in your car. (No smart person would leave the GPS itself in view of a potential thief, I would hope.) The Friction Mount can quickly and easily be removed and shoved under the seat or elsewhere. It’s also much easier to attach/remove the GPS to/from the mount. I’m happy with it.
Technical advice for listeners

They were a good price for the amount and just what my son needed for his dart gun.

I haven’t loved a book the way I did this one since The Secret Life of Bees. Cannot wait for her next one. What an amazing writer. I lost myself in this story! I just hope the film does it justice. But, if not, we always have the book. Bravo!!

MS 2007 OFFICE PROFESSIONAL SOFTWARE: I had read other reviews of the new version and with talking with others decided I would have to upgrade from 2003 Office Pro to Office Pro 2007. Yes, I am starting to love it… but why do they not tell you where the print button is? It is hidden under the icon on the top left! It sure has many bells and whistles. The learning curve took my productivity from 100% to 25% for about two weeks. But now that has passed I am back up and running again. I am in my fifties and so maybe if you are older thinking you can’t learn… well you can! Just have patience and lots of time on weekends to go through stuff. I did hope I would maybe get on offer to upgrade cheaper to Office Pro 2010 since that just came out… but to date have not gotten that. All in all I would upgrade because sooner or later you just have to keep up with the times.

Suction cups fall off when weather changes and let criminals know that you have valuables inside. This stand never moves on my dashboard and is easy to hide when I get out of the car. My dash is inclined around 20 degrees, but it never slides during any driving conditions. Get it.
