This Omron Pedometer is a poorly designed piece of CRAP!
One cannot re-set the counter to zero.

Whoever heard of a pedometer not being able to be reset???

The writing in this wonderful novel has a jarring truth to it…I could not put it down! Ms. Stockett has given us a gift with this book. She makes her reader experience the Civil Rights era through the eyes of simple, courageous black maids. She has captured the very speech mannerisms of the maids, their inner thoughts, their hopes, their dreams, their wonderful sense of humor about their circumstances, but most of all, Stockett has captured their fears. Fear of the power their white lady employers had over them and their families if they broke any of the ‘rules’. There’s no better way to understand an era than to hear it from the mouths of the people who lived through it…and Stockett has given us characters that became real people her readers can care about, cheer for, cry with. I hope someone will make it into a movie!

Silly Shaped Rubber Bands

I use Office 2007 at work and have become accustomed to it for what I consider basic productivity. I tried using MS Works (which came with my last two pcs) and I found Works to be more of a hastle than a help. There are compatibility issues with Works. Now all I need is Adobe Acrobat Professional and I’ll feel whole.

Mix Go Personal Hand

Kathryn Stockett’s heart is certainly in the right place. And I found I did care about the fate of her characters and read avidly to the end of the novel.

But then I realized that however noble her purpose, Stockett had constructed a book full of tired stereotypes and people who were, for the most part, either too saintly or too horrible to be true. The Black women were sometimes shown striving for their own families but too often their real value, what lifted them up and enobled them was the help and nurturing they provided to the White children they cared for. What a cliche! — Member of the Wedding anyone? Or Gone with the Wind?

And the villainess — well, Cruella DeVille can move over. This Southern belle accused not one but two innocent maids of theft and made sure a maid who actually stole something was beggared and sent to the penitentiary.

Not boring and well intentioned but if there is one original idea in this novel I couldn’t find it.

I bought the wii for my retired husband. He was very surprised and loves the game. He has been saving the world in air battles daily.

Pk of 12 Faith

Samantha Kingsley is in love with her best friend’s brother Adrien and travels with them on her way home from school in the East to Mexico. Along the way, their stagecoach picks up a handsome stranger. Hank Chevez is a reformed bandit trying to regain his childhood home. After losing his horse, he hitches a ride on a stagecoach and meets Samantha. Samantha sees the attractive stranger as an opportunity to make Adrien jealous, but her plan backfires. Hank appears to be falling for her. After learning the truth, he becomes sullen and hateful. Samantha responds in kind and they part ways. When she arrives home, she discovers that a violent Mexican bandit is trying to run her father off. Then she is kidnapped and discovers Hank is somehow involved and her hatred for him grows. Can their hate ever turn to love?

This story is one of my least favorite by Lindsey. Samantha is spoiled, willful, and vengeful. Hank is no prince, but could probably have done better. There is so much hate between these two characters that it is impossible to imagine them in love. If you are a die hard Lindsey fan, you should add it to your collection, but you will probably not wish to read it again.
Heart of Thunder

Given the number and quality of this book’s other reviews on this site, I’ll keep my comments short. When a reader has a book that contains an otherwise unfamiliar setting made familiar though amazingly extensive detail, fully developed characters, a strong storyline, and subtly woven literary themes, they have a great book. Water for Elephants is such a book. Gruen’s novel is proof that the combination of exhaustive research and solid writing makes an unforgettably stunning book. This is one instance where the number of positive reviews don’t lie: Water for Elephants is worth reading.
